About the role
The Medical Scientist contributes to the objectives of the Pulmonary Function Service by applying professional skills and knowledge to make routine (and with experience, non-routine) measurements of patients’ respiratory function, together with analysis and reporting of results. With increasing experience and knowledge, the incumbent will identify and define equipment and methodological problems and contribute to their rectification, and participate in training, education, quality assurance and department research roles.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or Bachelor of Science (complies with Workforce Operations Advice #WOA0006-12).

We are looking for an enthusiastic clinical physiologist to join our team working in a busy respiratory physiology department. The role will be involved in performing respiratory physiology tests such as spirometry, diffusing capacity and lung volumes, and more complex testing on people referred for a respiratory review. The role will also include working with CPAP and NIV patients, setting up and providing long term treatment and management for patients with sleep related breathing disorders, and provide support/assistance with Bronchoscopy procedure.
The role is based in Respiratory Medicine at Wellington Regional Hospital, but may require the candidate to work at other sites across the Wellington, Hutt Valley and Porirua region. Preferably you will have experience with lung function testing and be looking to further develop your career in this area. You will be focused on providing a patient centred experience and be confident to work with patients and their family and whanau to achieve the best possible test results.
The position offers the right candidate the opportunity to work in a busy respiratory service and gain experience working closely with the multidisciplinary team. Appropriate training will be provided as required.

Respiratory Medicine is based in the Clinical Measurement Unit at Wellington Regional Hospital. It provides outpatient services at Wellington and Kenepuru hospitals and in patient services at Wellington Regional Hospital. Outreach clinics are provided at Hutt and Masterton hospitals and community clinics are in development.
The service is fully supported by a full equipped pulmonary function laboratory with core and complex testing.
Current staffing totals 9 Senior Medical Officers, 4 Nurses and 7 Respiratory Physiologists. There are 4 full time registrars in respiratory medicine; two respiratory and one sleep registrar advanced trainee posts, one basic trainee post and a house physician.

The Role:
An opportunity exists for a Grade 2 Respiratory Scientist to join the growing team at Northern Health.
This role includes performing and the supervising junior scientists conducting respiratory and physiological testing, involvement in the laboratory’s quality assurance, training programs and laboratory co-ordination. Knowledge of scientific equipment and quality assurance programs

Melbourne Interventional Pulmonology Group is interested in an experienced Respiratory Scientist to assist in an outpatient Lung Function Lab, starting leave cover with potential for ongoing part time work.
MIPG is interested in finding an experienced Respiratory Scientist, to perform testing, initially at 2 days per week (Tuesday and Thursday) from with potential for further testing hours in future. The successful applicant with perform outpatient lung function tests on the latest Ganshorn bodybox and Bosch FeNO equipment. Tests will include; spirometry, exhaled nitric oxide, diffusion capacity, bronchoprovocation challenge (mannitol), CO, Hb, MIPS/MEPS and lung volume measurements.
In accordance with established laboratory procedures the scientist will be expected to:
Ensure the correct functioning of laboratory equipment by performing the required maintenance and calibration procedures
Perform the requested procedures ensuring measurement accuracy and the highest standards of patient care are achieved
Ensure the safety of patients undergoing testing procedures
Adhere to infection control and universal precautions
Actively participate and contribute to the conduct and development of an effective quality assurance program
Keep abreast of new development in respiratory technology and physiology

Essential criteria:
