VIC, Box Hill - Respiratory Scientist - Casual - Melbourne Interventional Pulmonology - Closes 03.05.24

One of Melbourne’s highly specialized Interventional Pulmonologists has created a comprehensive service for his patients.  Melbourne Interventional Pulmonology Group is interested in an experienced Respiratory Scientist to assist in an outpatient Lung Function Lab, starting leave cover with potential for ongoing part time work.  

 

MIPG is interested in finding an experienced Respiratory Scientist, to perform testing, initially at 2 days per week (Tuesday and Thursday) from with potential for further testing hours in future. The successful applicant with perform outpatient lung function tests on the latest Ganshorn bodybox and Bosch FeNO equipment. Tests will include; spirometry, exhaled nitric oxide, diffusion capacity, bronchoprovocation challenge (mannitol), CO, Hb, MIPS/MEPS and lung volume measurements.  

In accordance with established laboratory procedures the scientist will be expected to: 

  • Ensure the correct functioning of laboratory equipment by performing the required maintenance and calibration procedures 

  • Perform the requested procedures ensuring measurement accuracy and the highest standards of patient care are achieved 

  • Ensure the safety of patients undergoing testing procedures 

  • Adhere to infection control and universal precautions 

  • Actively participate and contribute to the conduct and development of an effective quality assurance program 

  • Keep abreast of new development in respiratory technology and physiology 

  • Assist in managing the laboratory such as ordering consumables, general office procedures 

  • Maintain records of equipment, consumables and statistics 

Essential criteria: 

  • Applicants must have at a minimum a bachelor degree in clinical measurements, applied science, exercise physiology, medical science or of a similar nature 

  • Experience in the field is essential 

  • Excellent time management skills 

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with a variety of people 

  • Proven ability to work as part of a team or independently as required 

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills 

  • High attention to detail 

  • Technologically competent 

  • Experience using Ganshorn and Bosch equipment is desirable, but training can be provided. 

Job Type: Casual 

Salary: Award + 10%

We are looking to employ a respiratory scientist to assist in the establishment of a new private respiratory laboratory.

 

To perform spirometry, measurement of plethysmographic lung volumes and gas transfer factor independently. To oversee the calibration and care of equipment and ordering of consumable pieces of equipment. To attend to patients with care and thoroughness. To provide interpretation of results and to maintain the administration of the laboratory.

 

Position: FTE 0.4-0.6 in Bendigo at a private respiratory laboratory at a specialist medical practice.

Bendigo Hospital is a regional centre providing both inpatient and outpatient specialist respiratory services for the Loddon Mallee Region. This position is integral to the continuing development of the Lung Function Laboratory and its services, which is currently in the process of working towards TSANZ Accreditation. The position incorporates both clinical and managerial responsibilities, including the efficient and accurate performance of routine and complex respiratory function tests, stock maintenance and billing, lung function reporting, and staff training and education. You will ensure that all testing meets accreditation standards, and that quality assurance and calibration processes are comprehensively completed. This role requires someone who is resourceful, flexible, enjoys teamwork and has the ability to take the initiative. You will have excellent communication skills and high standards of clinical practice.

Part time position available

 

Northern Respiratory and Respiratory SA provide a full service of lung function testing for investigations into respiratory conditions. We are a private clinic with 6 consulting physicians and are committed to providing high-quality, professional service in a comfortable and patient-friendly environment.

 

Testing is done using Vyaire’s Vyntus Body and Jaeger MS systems, using Sentry Suite software. Tests we offer include spirometry, DLCO, lung volumes via body plethysmography, FeNO, Mannitol challenge, 6-Minute walk test, high altitude simulation testing, MIPs/MEPs and rhinomanometry.

 

Our technicians are part of a small team providing testing services in the laboratory and assisting with administrative tasks where required. Excellent time management and organisational skills, and ability to work independently are essential.

 

The position is likely to require shifts at both our Kent Town and Elizabeth sites. A flexible approach to working hours will be required, with hours ranging from 0730 – 1900 with early and late shifts.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
• Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science, Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent
• Current first aid and CPR certificates
• Police check

 

DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS
• Experience working in a pulmonary function laboratory or similar
• Understanding associated with the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system.
